Dera Natung Govt. College, Itanagar organised a day long “Outstanding Alumni Meet cum Felicitation Programme & Workshop on ‘Role of Alumni in Development of Institution’” on 5th August 2023 at the college auditorium. Dr. M. Q. Khan, the Principal, Dera Natung Govt. College, Itanagar gave hearty welcome to all the outstanding alumni in attendance who have excelled in various fields such as politics, academia, business, central and state services, games & sports, art & culture etc. He asserted that the first ever Outstanding Alumni Meet has been organized with the objective to connect the alumni with their alma mater. Furthermore, he lauded Chief Minister’s immediate response to infrastructural need of the institution by sanctioning various infrastructural schemes in the college in the recent past which are now in the stage of near completion.
Professor Dhananjay Singh, Member Secretary ICSSR and an alumnus of DNGC while delivering keynote address stated that the bond between the alumni and their alma mater is social, cultural, inter-generational and a bond of emotions, love and care. Expressing his own nostalgia upon visiting the College, he declared that one is always a student in their college. He attributed his success to the values of hard work, honesty and sensitivity learned at the alma mater. He further asserted that with the introduction of NEP 2020 alumni are expected to play a big role in transforming the college into a 'hub of innovations' by contributing not only to resource generation but also in ideas and sharing experience from their respective fields.
Shri Tame Phassang while speaking as Guest of Honour deliberated on his nostalgic feeling about the institution. He opined that in near future this kind of programme should be organised in large scale to extend its reach and connect with many alumni who are serving in every nook and corner of the state, nation and international. He encouraged students to inculcate never-give-up attitude to achieve their goal in life.
While speaking as Chief Guest, Shri Pema Khandu shared his own experience as a member of OSA, the alumni association of Hindu College, University of Delhi. He further advised the alumni to prepare a roadmap to be presented to the State government for the fast-track development of Dera Natung Government College. He stated that the alumni association should act as a catalyst in ensuring the overall growth of the college as well as a guiding force for the current students to be active participants in positively building Arunachal.
The day long programme was divided into two sessions viz inaugural session and post lunch session. During the inaugural session, around 230 Outstanding Alumni were felicitated by the distinguished guests. Post lunch session was workshop on ‘Role of Alumni in Development of Institution’ where floor was opened to all the alumni to deliberate on the role of alumni in the development of the institution. Many speakers deliberated and expressed their bounded responsibility to give back to the institution by contributing in terms of felicitating for good academic environment, imparting value system and career orientation goals through career counselling, augmenting cultural ethos as all as infrastructural development of the college and many more.
