The inaugural ceremony was graced by Shri P. D. Sona, Hon’ble Minister for Education, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, Shri Amjad Tak, IAS and Commissioner of Education Department, Arunachal Pradesh and Shri Minto Ete, Deputy Director (Estt) cum DSPD (RUSA) who jointly inaugurated the new buildings.
A culturally evocative welcome song, “Aruge Kamchi Nyi Donyi Ge,” performed by the boarders of Nyari Welly Girls’ Hostel, DNGC Itanagar, was presented, setting an appropriate tone for the occasion. The programme began with a welcome address by the Principal of Dera Natung Government College, Dr. M. Q. Khan who gave a hearty welcome and underscored the significance of the newly added infrastructure in enhancing academic excellence and improving residential facilities for students. This was followed by a felicitation ceremony honouring the dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Shri P. D. Sona emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining public infrastructure. He urged students to take ownership of the newly inaugurated facilities and to ensure that they are kept clean and well-maintained, stating that the longevity and usefulness of the infrastructure ultimately rest in the hands of the students themselves. He further added that the Education Department of Arunachal Pradesh remains committed to strengthening higher education in the state and intends to undertake more such developmental initiatives in the future.
The buildings were designed by Shri Mojum Bam, Architect, and the construction work was executed under the supervision of Shri Gyamar Karo SPE Cum SE Engineering. The newly inaugurated 190-bedded Boys’ Hostel, constructed under SASCI (2023–24) and BE (2024–25) at a total cost of ₹800.00 lakhs, is a three-storeyed structure with a total built-up area of 2720.80 square metres. It comprises 31 rooms on the ground floor and 32 rooms each on the first and second floors, with adequate sanitation facilities including eight WCs and eight bathrooms on each floor.
The Girls’ Hostel, developed in two phases under BE (2019–20) and BE (2023–24) at a combined cost of ₹535.50 lakhs, provides accommodation for 106 boarders within a 1528.40 square metre built-up area spread across three floors and includes dedicated kitchen and dining facilities.
The up-gradation and extension of the New Academic Building (G+II) under RUSA 2.0 (2022–23), executed at a cost of ₹160.00 lakhs, has added 486.00 square metres of academic space through the construction of two classrooms on each floor, strengthening the institution’s teaching and learning capacity.
In addition, the newly constructed Anthropology Department building, developed in two phases under BE (2022–23)and BE (2024–25) with a total investment of ₹270.00 lakhs, provides 673.50 square metres of dedicated academic space, comprising two rooms and sanitation facilities on each of its three floors, significantly enhancing discipline-specific infrastructure.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Assistant Professor, Dr. Helina Mantaw, who conveyed heartfelt gratitude to the dignitaries, architects, engineers, faculty members, staff, and all stakeholders involved in the successful completion of the project and the inaugural event.
Thereafter, the Hon’ble Minister and accompanying dignitaries conducted a brief inspection of the newly constructed buildings. The inauguration ceremony thus represented a meaningful step forward in enhancing the academic environment, residential infrastructure, and institutional capacity of Dera Natung Government College, Itanagar, reaffirming its commitment to student welfare and academic excellence.
