To commemorate the birth anniversary of Indian legendary mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan (The man who knew infinity), the Science Club & Mathematics Department of Dera Natung Government College (DNGC), Itanagar had observed National Mathematics Day today here in the Department of Mathematics, DNGC.
The overall celebration was successfully organised by the two energetic Assistant Professors of Mathematics Department, DNGC namely Mr. Botem Moyong (Coordinator) and Mr. Goke Riji (Co-Coordinator), and was attended by around one hundred students across various departments of DNGC.
The event witnessed the gracious presence of Dr. B.K. Mishra, Head, Department of Chemistry, as the Resource Person, Dr. Ratna Tayeng, Head, Department of Anthropology, as the Special Guest and Mr. Nanggom Gammi, Assistant Professor of Mathematics.
The main objectives of the celebration are to promote the mathematics education especially to increase awareness about the importance of mathematics in our day to day lives; to encourage the young minds to pursue their career in the field of mathematics; and to foster a deeper appreciation for the power and beauty of Mathematics.
To mark the celebration, the various activities were carried out viz. Math Speech Competition, Math Fun Game/Mind Game and Expert Talks, followed by Celebration.
In the Math Speech Competition, the students Mr. Ramu Gurung, Mr. Dilun Tatak and Ms. Binya Ruji bagged the first, second and third prizes, respectively.
Mr. Mori Tato, Mr. Tah Nacho and Ms. Khushi Rai secured the first, second and third prizes, respectively in the Math Fun Game/Mind Game competition.
All the prize winners were awarded with trophies, cash prizes and certificates, while, the rest participants were awarded certificates only.
The Resource Person, Dr. B.K. Mishra briefed the life history of Ramanujan, his contribution in the field of Mathematics and Science. He further encouraged the students present to remain dedicated and committed to their education.
The Special Guest Dr. Ratna Tayeng extended his warm gratitude to the organizing team. He exhorted the students to remain proactive in every field especially that related to education.
The Programme Coordinator, Mr. Botem Moyong, told the students to expose their hidden talent in right platform. He encouraged them to participate all competitive events like literary, games & sports, cultural, etc.
Mr. Ramu Gurung and Proveen Sutradhar, both B. Sc. Mathematics 5th semester students of DNGC, also talked on Ramanujan.
The event which was hosted by Ms. Naziya Parwin and Ms. Yapuk Yangfo (both B. Sc. 5th semester Mathematics Students), also showed a brilliant group song and a group dance.
The event successfully concluded with a group photo session.
